St George's, DE 4‐10

April in Boston has notoriously bad weather, so with remote work, it seemed the perfect year to begin touring season a little early.   The bus left from rawson rd, bikes on the back, down to Delaware and one week further into spring.  Mostly uneventful drive except for sub-par Clara Burton rest stop in NJ .  After Mark did his civic duty, helping a healthcare worker move a disabled woman, we set out along the Mike Castle bike trail.  It runs along the Chesapeake & Delaware canal, a 14 mile canal built in 1820s to connect the Delaware River and Chesapeake bay, saving 300 miles of sailing between Baltimore and Philadelphia.  It took 4 years using pickaxes and shovels, the big dig of its time.  Nice flat trail between Delaware city (good bbq sandwiches!) and Chesapeake city.  Stopped 3 miles before the end for a beer at Grain craft bar & kitchen before heading to generica-america hotel in Middletown.   Dinner at Cantwell's, a restored 19th century tavern. 31 miles (and 300+ car miles)
